Equal marriage

Equal marriage celebrations in England and Wales!

Today was a wonderful day for England and Wales. At midnight the equal marriage (same-sex marriage) law came into force and celebrations have swept the land.

We’ve joined a growing list:

The Netherlands was the first (in 2001), Argentina (2010), New Zealand (2013), South Africa (2006), Belgium (2003), France (2013), Norway (2009), Spain (2005), Brazil (2013), Iceland (2010), Portugal (2010), Sweden (2009), Canada (2005), The Netherlands (2000), Uruguay (2013), Denmark (2012), and soon Scotland (the law has not yet come into force).

In the USA the list has been growing since 2003: California, Connecticut, Delaware, Hawaii, Illinois, Iowa, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Minnesota, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, Rhode Island, Vermont and Washington state – and the District of Columbia, with court decisions, legislative action or statewide referendums prompting the changes. In addition, the Supreme Court struck down part of the federal Defense of Marriage Act in 2013, requiring the federal government to recognize same-sex marriages from the states where they are legal.

Only one thing for it.. time for a dance!

Yours in high spirits,
